NEW LIFE TO AN OLD PRODUCT
What do you do when you have great quality content, but the typography and color is dated and unappealing to today's young audiences? Here is a series of six illustrated books of timeless Bible stories, originally published in the 1970s. I was tasked with the challenge to rejuvenate and update the entire series with new colorization and typography—to appeal to current young audiences. The original line illustrations were digitized and I added coloring to the illustrations in layered Photoshop files.

GLOBAL ADAPTATION
Due to the popularity of these titles in English markets, parallel translations in German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese followed in 2020. Since we knew that these books would be translated into our primary languages, we first explored and selected typography. It was important to verify that each typeface included appropriate accents, glyphs, and diacritics for each language. I worked closely with our in-house Office of Language Services. After my initial layout in language, the OLS partner would correct and tweak within InCopy. We found that this collaboration streamlined the workflow and minimized errors.
DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
In 2021, each of the seven titles were republished in digital eBook format. A digital transformation meant that animations and audio could be included. However, due to budget limitations, we were bound to use only the original artwork and could not create new artwork. I enjoyed the challenges and needed to create innovative ways to re-purpose some artwork. I created new layouts for each spread to make the page content easier to comprehend.

Our digital product could offer more versatility by offering accessibility to visually and hearing impaired and the ability to offer parallel language translations within the same product.

The end result made the content more interactive and enjoyable for the reader. The new format created an even wider audience base. I created new layouts for each page to make a better reading experience for an iPad.
